Vrushavalli 2013 - Part 1

Had a wonderful weekend. Saturday was a refreshing day amidst flowers at Vrushavalli 2013 and Sunday amidst toys at launch celebration of Simba Toy Store at Korum Mall…

Vrushavalli is annual trees, flowers, fruits and vegetables exhibition cum competition held by Thane Municipal Corporation to create awareness among people about the importance of plantation. This was at Gaondevi Maidan, Thane. There were more than 5000 varieties of plants, fruit and vegetables which included ornamental plants, herbal, CACTII, hanging plants and potted plants. Participants were LODHA, Godrej, TIFR, Hiranandani. Below are  few pics,

International Mother Tongue Day

Walking through the streets of Bandra the other day I heard somebody speaking in Kannada, i just turned to find my cousin out there shopping... 

I have been amazed by such instances many a times. Once in a restaurant in Dubai did i find somebody speaking in Kannada and i just can't stop myself from speaking to such people from my own place. Speaking to that person realized me that he was from my own town.. 

I have always realized that you may not speak in Kannada when you are in Karnataka, but definitely would when you are far away from your place and eagerly waiting for somebody with whom you can speak in Kannada.

Kannada is a language spoken predominantly in the southern state of India, Karnataka. It is one of the scheduled languages of India and the official and administrative language of the state.

Browsing through FB got to know today is the International Mother Tongue Day... So this is a simple post dedicated to Kannada my Mother tongue....

Hassan - My own place.....

Just booked my tickets to Hassan for a months vacation, found this would be perfect time for me to write about this place.
Born and brought up in Hassan I have been visiting places in and around it many a times.. As kid it was always a fun trip to enjoy with cousins and friends...I have been hearing about those places from my parents and grand parents, but least was I bothered to know as a kid... Only after i started to blog did it really bother me to go back to those days and refresh my memories... And thanks to Wiki for those facts and figures.... Hence this and the following few posts are on the places in and around Hassan...

Hassan gets its name from Goddess "Haasanamba", whose temple resides at the heart of the city. 

Hassan district was the seat of Hoysala Empire which at its peak ruled large parts of south India from Belur as its early capital and Halebidu as its later one. Hassan today is primarily known worldwide for its Hoysala architecture.
The main tourist attractions are Belur Channakeshava Temple, Halebidu Hoysaleswara Temple and Lord Gomateshwara at Shravanabelagola.
It also houses Master Control Facility of Indian Space Research Organisation.
